Giant River Otter
The Giant River Otter is the largest member of the weasel family reaching up to six feet in length. It ranges across north-central South America, living mostly in and around the Amazon River and in the Pantanal. Due to fur poaching in the 1950's and 60's it has been listed as endangered since 1999 with wild populations estimated at below 5000. It is the most social species of the weasel family, living in family groups of three to eight members.
