"Access Follywood" - For the July issue of Main Line Today.

You know when you just want to relax with your book by the water and sip your lemonade in peace? Well, this illustration is not it. This is for Main Line Today's June "End of the Line" column, written by Katie Kohler . The article is called "Access Follywood" and it's about all of the annoying young "celebrities" at your local pool. The cast of characters include everyone from aquatic quarterbacks, "The Mannings", posing and pouting preteen "Kardashians" , the roughhousing jack-assery of the "Bam Margeras" and everyone else doing everything disruptive in between. My Familiar

Here is my latest drawing which will be a part of the "Cats" show at Gristle Gallery in Brooklyn this September. I tried some new techniques with this one: starting with a vision that came out of a frustrating period of stagnation. (CARNIVORE tapped me out for a while!)  I am pleased with the result and inspired to create. 🖤

A Match Made in Government

Here is a great assignment that I just did for the June issue of Government Technology.  The article is titled, "A Match Made in Government". The story describes, "a metaphorical chasm at the heart of civic tech. Standing on one side of the divide are municipal and state governments, anxious to enhance digital services, reduce costs, bolster efficiency, and, ultimately, serve the public better. On the other side, straining to see what’s across, are tech startups that have often done in the private sector exactly what the governments want so badly to accomplish. Now, if only the two sides could meet."

I thought it would be fun to show the two sides of the aisle. On one, there are the entrepreneurs- self starting business owners and tech engineers who bring their talent to the table in their own way. On the other side, you have the conservatively dressed business suits of traditional government. Each side is eyeing up the other, trying to figure out a way to work together on the same projects.  Many thanks to Kelly at eRepublic for the art direction!

The Brawling Broadcaster - for Columbus Monthly.

I was asked by Columbus Monthly to illustrate an article for their May issue titled, "The Brawling Broadcaster", which is about an incident that took place between sportscaster, Jeff Rimer and (before he was) baseball legend, Pete Rose, in 1984. Apparently, Rimer had said something negative on the air about the Montreal Expos (Rose's team at the time) playing season which led to a radio show argument that later escalated into a locker room tiff.

My task was to illustrate the described moment of the scuffle, with boxing-gloved teammates egging on Rose as he puts the much less imposing Jeff Rimer in a head lock. I'm not sure if I drew the event EXACTLY how it went down but it was fun to exaggerate and try and capture the moment. From what I read there was a public apology by Rose the next day and so everything ended up OK in the end. Special thanks to Betsy at Columbus Monthly for the art direction.

Charity poster art for Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation

I did this charity poster artwork for Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation 12th annual Dog Walk, which is coming up on Saturday, August 5th. The rescue is dedicated to saving and placing lost and abandoned pets in Haywood County, North Carolina. All proceeds from the Dog Walk benefit the shelter. I know it is a "dog" walk, but I had to sneak a kitten in there. How else would you keep all of the dogs organized? ;)
