Masking Out

October is upon us! Which means Halloween is right around the corner. This illustration for the October issue of Main Line Today is for the article, "Masking Out - How we put on different faces all year long", written by Katie Kohler.  The story talks about the idea of not dressing up for Halloween anymore because people already wear different masks on social media for 365 days of the year in order to get more likes and comments.

NOTE: (Personally, I think I'll still dress up for Halloween until I'm at least 92)

Portraits for Public CIO

Government Technology Magazine has a recurring supplemental issue called Public CIO. I have done portrait illustrations for it in the past and had the opportunity to create six portraits of industry leaders for it again this year which were then used on the cover and the interior spreads. (Clockwise from top), Rajiv Gupta, Robert Knapp, Tim Merrigan, Chris Atkins, Nick Psaki and Chris O'Malley. "Self-Care Overload" - for the August issue of Philadelphia Magazine

Here's a fun illustration that I did for the August issue of Philadelphia Magazine. The article is called "We have Reached the Peak of Self-Care" and it's about how we throw the term "Self-Care" around all of the time these days and how it has become a huge industry. (Dollar signs)

"Access Follywood" - For the July issue of Main Line Today.

You know when you just want to relax with your book by the water and sip your lemonade in peace? Well, this illustration is not it. This is for Main Line Today's June "End of the Line" column, written by Katie Kohler . The article is called "Access Follywood" and it's about all of the annoying young "celebrities" at your local pool. The cast of characters include everyone from aquatic quarterbacks, "The Mannings", posing and pouting preteen "Kardashians" , the roughhousing jack-assery of the "Bam Margeras" and everyone else doing everything disruptive in between. A Match Made in Government

Here is a great assignment that I just did for the June issue of Government Technology.  The article is titled, "A Match Made in Government". The story describes, "a metaphorical chasm at the heart of civic tech. Standing on one side of the divide are municipal and state governments, anxious to enhance digital services, reduce costs, bolster efficiency, and, ultimately, serve the public better. On the other side, straining to see what’s across, are tech startups that have often done in the private sector exactly what the governments want so badly to accomplish. Now, if only the two sides could meet."

I thought it would be fun to show the two sides of the aisle. On one, there are the entrepreneurs- self starting business owners and tech engineers who bring their talent to the table in their own way. On the other side, you have the conservatively dressed business suits of traditional government. Each side is eyeing up the other, trying to figure out a way to work together on the same projects.  Many thanks to Kelly at eRepublic for the art direction!
