Here is a portrait illustration of Pulitzer Prize winning American novelist and short story author, Adam Johnson, that I did for this week's edition of Chicago Tribune Printers Row Journal. The article, written by Kevin Nance, is titled "'Fortune Smiles'... and Then What?" is about the author's thoughts and reflections on his latest collection of short stories. I have really been enjoying creating author portraits for the cover of the Chicago Tribune Printers Row Journal. I never know who I will be drawing. When the art director sends me the reference to work from, it's kind of like opening a present. This week's author was Mario Vargas. Below is the final cover layout of the journal and under that, my final art sans background color. I send a white background for the final and the art director will then drop in a background color according to what color the book jacket is.

I wanted to share with you four portrait illustrations for this month's edition of California Real Estate Magazine for the article, "Reinventing Real Estate", by Jeannette Brown. The portraits are of top executives in the real estate industry: Joel Singer, CEO of the California Association of Realtors, Curt Beardsley, Zillow's VP of Industry Development, Luke Glass, VP of Industry Platforms for Realtor.com and Paul Levine, President of Trulia. Below, I have posted the spread as well as details of the portraits. The layout turned out great and the illustrations look fantastic!
